The Backstory

After a motor vehicle accident in 2013, I decided to enroll in a program to work towards a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Savannah College of Art and Design. Going back to school in my mid-forties has been quite a challenge. Luckily, my life experience has taught me many lessons. First, is the ability to see the forest beyond the trees. Second, my assumptions, thought processes, and positions are not always correct. Lastly, solution-based ideas help bridge the gap through education. These lessons allowed me to understand how to become a better person and a better citizen. Furthering my education has opened many doors, and what I thought was daunting at first has blossomed into an opportunity to teach others through art,  becoming the most inspiring aspect yet. We see the world and its citizens in humanistic ways through art, which propel us forward through difficult times in our lives. The importance of diversity among artists allows for broader conversation. This diversity needs to be nurtured for more stories, viewpoints, and interpretations to permeate our institutions. I have had the great fortune to work on truly inspiring projects while meeting many influential and creative individuals along the way. I believe in working together to create a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
